How to read the battery spec tables
Every model above lists usable battery capacity — the energy you can actually draw on to drive, not the larger gross figure some manufacturers use in marketing — alongside the official range figure (WLTP or EPA, depending on region) and real-world efficiency in miles or km per kWh. Usable capacity is the number that actually predicts range and charge time, which is why it's what every calculator on this site uses internally too. Where a manufacturer offers multiple battery sizes or motor configurations for the same model — a Standard Range and Long Range Hyundai Ioniq 5, for instance — we list them as separate rows so you're comparing the exact variant you own or are considering, not an average across the whole model line.
Our data sources, and why we always show usable capacity
We use ev-database.org as the primary source for every figure on this page — an independent, continually-verified database that's become a widely-trusted reference across the EV community precisely because it distinguishes usable from gross capacity rather than repeating manufacturer marketing figures uncritically. For newer or region-limited models not yet listed there, we fall back to manufacturer specifications or Wikipedia until verified figures are published. We deliberately never show gross pack size on its own: a bigger gross number looks impressive but tells you nothing about how far you'll actually drive, which is the whole point of a spec table like this one.
Specs are a starting point, not a substitute for your own car
Factory specifications describe a new car under lab conditions — they're the right reference for comparing models before you buy, but they won't tell you how a specific, already-owned Nissan Leaf or Volkswagen ID.3 is actually performing today. Real-world capacity drifts from the factory figure with age, climate and charging habits, which is exactly the gap the battery health calculator is built to measure — plug in your own consumption data and it compares your car's real behaviour against the same usable capacity figures shown here, rather than assuming your battery still performs exactly as it did on day one.
