About the MG MGS5 EV
The MG MGS5 EV is the successor to the popular MG ZS EV, and it represents a substantial upgrade in nearly every dimension. Available with 47.1 or 62.1 kWh NMC battery options, the larger pack delivers up to 290 miles of WLTP range — a significant improvement over the ZS EV's maximum of 273 miles.
Design-wise, the MGS5 adopts MG's new design language with a cleaner, more modern look. The interior has been thoroughly modernised with a larger central touchscreen, digital instruments, and improved material quality. It remains positioned as a value-oriented compact electric SUV, competing against the Kia Niro EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.
Charging has improved to 150 kW DC, cutting 10–80% charge times to around 28 minutes — a welcome step up from the ZS EV's 76 kW maximum. Home charging on a 7 kW wallbox takes approximately 9 hours for the larger battery. The MGS5 continues MG's strategy of offering competitive specifications at aggressive pricing.
What the press thinks
The MGS5 EV is viewed as a meaningful improvement over the ZS EV it replaces. Reviewers appreciate the better charging speed, updated interior, and improved range. It continues to offer strong value, though some note that the gap between MG and rivals like Kia has narrowed as the competition has also improved.
