About the Suzuki e VITARA

The Suzuki e VITARA is Suzuki's first fully electric car, developed in partnership with Toyota and sharing elements with the Toyota Urban Cruiser. It uses BYD-supplied LFP blade battery cells — a chemistry choice that prioritises longevity and safety, allowing daily 100% charging without degradation concerns.

Two battery sizes are offered: a 49 kWh pack with front-wheel drive producing 142 bhp, and a 61 kWh version available with either FWD at 174 bhp or Suzuki's AllGrip-e AWD system at 184 bhp. WLTP range extends to 243 miles for the larger battery, with real-world figures of around 170-210 miles depending on conditions.

DC charging peaks at 150 kW on paper, though Suzuki quotes a 10-80% time of 45 minutes, suggesting the peak rate is sustained only briefly. The e VITARA carries over Suzuki's reputation for straightforward, dependable motoring into the electric era. It is not the most exciting EV to drive, but the competitive pricing, robust LFP battery, and optional AWD make it a sensible choice for practical buyers.

What the press thinks

Reviewers appreciate the e VITARA's sensible approach — the LFP battery chemistry, competitive pricing, and optional AWD stand out in a crowded segment. Charging speed is disappointing for the headline rate, and the driving experience is functional rather than thrilling. For buyers who want a reliable, well-priced electric SUV without drama, it delivers.
