About the CUPRA Tavascan
The CUPRA Tavascan is the Spanish performance brand's first dedicated electric vehicle and its most ambitious model to date. Unlike the CUPRA Born, which is closely related to the VW ID.3, the Tavascan is a unique CUPRA design — a coupe-SUV with aggressive styling, copper accents, and a sporty stance that sets it apart from the Volkswagen Group's other MEB-platform vehicles.
Built on the extended MEB platform with a 77 kWh battery, the Tavascan offers a WLTP range of up to 341 miles for the rear-wheel drive variant — one of the longest ranges on the MEB platform. DC charging peaks at 135 kW for the RWD and 175 kW for the AWD VZ variant, with a 10-to-80% charge taking approximately 26 minutes.
The Tavascan VZ adds a second motor on the front axle for AWD and 335 bhp, bringing the 0–62 mph time down to 5.6 seconds. The driving experience leans sportier than most MEB cars, with progressive steering, DCC adaptive dampers, and a lower centre of gravity than the ID.4 or ID.5.
Inside, the Tavascan features CUPRA's latest interior design with a 15-inch central touchscreen, a small driver display, and CUPRA's distinctive copper-accented trim. The bucket-style seats are supportive and comfortable for longer journeys. Build quality is good, though some MEB-platform quirks (like occasional infotainment lag) persist.
What the press thinks
Reviewers praise the Tavascan's bold design, strong range, and genuinely sporty character for an MEB-platform car. The VZ variant's performance earns particular praise. Criticisms focus on the high price relative to the mechanically similar VW ID.5, occasional infotainment software glitches, and the limited rear headroom due to the coupe roofline.
