About the DS Automobiles N°4
The DS N°4 is DS Automobiles' step into the premium electric SUV segment, built on Stellantis' STLA Medium platform. With a 73 kWh NMC battery and 160 kW DC charging, it represents a significant technological leap over the outgoing DS 3 E-Tense and its older e-CMP underpinnings.
DS has used the platform upgrade to deliver a properly competitive range of up to 360 miles WLTP, putting it in the same conversation as the BMW iX1 and Volvo EX40. The interior continues DS's signature approach — premium materials, elaborate detailing, and a design language that prioritises artisanal feel over minimalist tech.
The N°4 naming convention signals a new era for DS, moving away from the old numbering system. Whether the brand can convince premium buyers to choose it over established German and Scandinavian rivals remains the central question. On paper, the N°4 has the range, charging speed, and cabin quality to compete. Brand cachet is the harder battle.
What the press thinks
Early reviews note that the STLA Medium platform transforms the DS proposition. Range and charging are now competitive with premium rivals. The interior quality continues to impress. Scepticism remains about DS brand awareness and residual values compared to BMW and Volvo.
