About the Honda e
The Honda e was a charming, retro-styled city car that prioritised character and driving pleasure over practicality. Launched in 2020 and discontinued in early 2024, it was never intended to be a long-range EV — the small 35.5 kWh battery provided just 125-137 miles of WLTP range, and real-world driving typically yielded 95-115 miles.
What made the Honda e special was its rear-wheel-drive layout — unusual for a small EV — which gave it playful handling and a tight 4.3-metre turning circle. The interior was genuinely innovative, featuring a full-width dashboard display spanning five screens, side camera mirrors replacing traditional wing mirrors, and a lounge-like ambience that felt unlike anything else in its segment.
DC charging was limited to 56 kW via CCS, but the tiny battery meant a 10-to-80% charge took only 30 minutes. AC charging at 6.6 kW gave a full charge in around five hours. The small battery also meant rapid degradation was less of a concern — the cells were never pushed particularly hard.
Honda priced the e ambitiously, which ultimately contributed to its commercial failure — it cost similar money to EVs with twice the range. As a used car, however, it has developed a cult following among enthusiasts who value its unique character, superb build quality, and rear-drive dynamics.

The Honda e earned universal praise for its design, build quality, and charming character. The rear-wheel-drive handling was a highlight that no rival matched. However, every review noted the same fundamental issue: the limited range and high price made it nearly impossible to recommend over more practical alternatives.
