About the KGM Torres EVX
The KGM Torres EVX is a mid-size electric SUV from KGM Motors, formerly known as SsangYong. The Korean brand was acquired by KG Group in 2022 and rebranded as KGM, with the Torres EVX representing its first serious attempt at an electric vehicle for international markets.
Building on the rugged styling of the petrol-powered Torres, the EVX uses a 72 kWh LFP battery supplied by BYD, paired with a single front motor producing 207 bhp. The LFP chemistry is a sensible choice for a value-oriented SUV — it can be charged to 100% daily without degradation concerns, and BYD's established battery technology provides reassurance. WLTP range is up to 287 miles, with real-world figures of around 210-250 miles.
DC charging at up to 150 kW delivers a 10-to-80% charge in approximately 37 minutes. The interior is spacious with a reasonably well-equipped cabin, though materials quality does not match Korean premium rivals like Genesis. The ride is comfortable, and the Torres EVX's upright, boxy design maximises interior space.
Priced aggressively to compete with Chinese newcomers and established Korean rivals, the Torres EVX offers good value. The main concerns are KGM's limited dealer network and uncertain brand future, given the company's turbulent recent history under multiple ownership changes.
What the press thinks
The Torres EVX earns credit for its competitive pricing, rugged styling, and the reassurance of a BYD-supplied LFP battery. Reviewers note the spacious interior and decent range. Concerns focus on the brand's uncertain future, limited dealer coverage, and the somewhat agricultural driving experience compared to more refined rivals.
