About the Kia EV3
The Kia EV3 brings the desirability of Kia's larger EV6 into a more accessible compact SUV package. Built on a version of Hyundai-Kia's E-GMP platform, it packs a surprising amount of technology and range into a car that is roughly the size of a Nissan Qashqai. Two battery options are available: a 55 kWh Standard Range and a 78 kWh Long Range, with the latter achieving up to 375 miles of WLTP range — an exceptional figure for a compact EV.
Design closely follows the larger EV6 and EV9, with sharp creases, a closed-off front, and a distinctive light signature. Inside, the cabin feels a class above, with a wide dual-screen display, sustainable materials, and Kia's excellent infotainment. The flat floor and clever packaging yield impressive rear-seat space and a 460-litre boot.
DC charging peaks at 128 kW with an 800V architecture on the Long Range model, meaning it can accept both 400V and 800V chargers without an adapter. A 10–80% charge takes around 31 minutes. The Standard Range uses a 400V system.
The EV3 competes aggressively with the Volkswagen ID.3, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Volvo EX30. With its blend of range, technology, and keen pricing, it is one of the most compelling affordable EVs launched in 2024.
What the press thinks
Near-universal praise for the EV3's impressive range-to-size ratio, quality interior, and keen pricing. The Long Range's 375-mile WLTP claim is a standout. Some find the ride slightly firm, and DC charging could be faster for the battery size.
