About the Rolls-Royce Spectre
The Rolls-Royce Spectre is the marque's first fully electric motor car and, fittingly, the most expensive EV you can buy. Built on an evolved version of Rolls-Royce's aluminium Architecture of Luxury, it houses a 102 kWh battery beneath the floor of a vast two-door coupe body that stretches over 5.4 metres long.
With 577 bhp and 664 lb-ft of torque from its dual-motor setup, the Spectre is effortlessly fast rather than aggressively so — perfectly in keeping with the Rolls-Royce character. The near-silent electric drivetrain is a natural fit for a brand that has always prioritised refinement above all else. Rolls-Royce themselves describe it as the most Rolls-Royce car they have ever built.
WLTP range is 291-329 miles depending on specification, and DC charging peaks at 195 kW. At nearly three tonnes, it is enormously heavy, but the air suspension and acoustic isolation mean occupants experience nothing but wafting serenity. The bespoke interior can be configured in virtually limitless combinations of leather, wood, and metal.
What the press thinks
Critics unanimously agree that electric power suits Rolls-Royce better than any combustion engine ever did. The Spectre's silence, smoothness, and effortless torque delivery are repeatedly praised as the purest expression of the brand's ethos. Criticisms focus on the enormous weight, modest charging speed for the price, and the fact that it costs more than a house in most postcodes.
