About the Skywell BE11
The Skywell BE11 is a Chinese-made electric SUV that arrived in the UK and select European markets as a budget alternative to established players. Built by Skywell, a company with roots in commercial vehicle and bus manufacturing, it offers surprisingly generous interior space and equipment levels at a price that undercuts most mainstream rivals.
Two battery options are available: a 72 kWh Standard Range pack delivering 248 miles WLTP, and an 86 kWh Long Range version stretching to 304 miles. The single motor produces 150 kW and 320 Nm, giving adequate if unexciting performance with 0-62 mph in 9.6 seconds.
The BE11's main weakness is its slow DC charging speed of just 80 kW — poor by 2024 standards and significantly slower than rivals from Hyundai, Kia, and Volkswagen. Interior quality is decent rather than premium, though standard equipment is generous. For buyers prioritising range and space on a budget, it offers genuine value, but the unfamiliar brand and limited dealer network may give some pause.
What the press thinks
Reviewers acknowledge the BE11's impressive space and competitive pricing but consistently flag its slow charging speed as a significant weakness. Build quality is reasonable but not up to the standards of Korean or European rivals. It fills a gap for budget-conscious buyers who prioritise range over charging convenience.
