How to find these values on your Volvo

Wh/mi or Wh/km

On the Google-based infotainment screen, swipe down or tap the "Energy" app. Average consumption in kWh/100 km or Wh/mi is displayed in the energy consumption summary. On older models (pre-Google), check "Driver Performance" in the centre display.

Estimated Range

Estimated range is shown on the instrument cluster (driver display) and in the "Range" screen of the central display, which breaks range down by climate, driving style, etc.

Battery Percentage

Battery percentage is displayed on the instrument cluster next to the range and in the charging/battery section of the central display.

About the Volvo XC40 Recharge

The Volvo XC40 Recharge was Volvo's first fully electric car, arriving in 2020 as a battery-powered version of the popular XC40 SUV. It was built on the adapted CMA platform and offered in both single-motor and dual-motor configurations, with the latter producing a punchy 408 bhp.

The battery options ranged from 67 kWh to 75 kWh usable, both using NMC chemistry with cells sourced from CATL and LG Energy Solution. DC charging peaks at 150 kW, delivering a 10-80% charge in around 33 minutes. The active liquid cooling system helps maintain battery health over time, and Volvo's warranty covers the pack for 8 years or 100,000 miles.

The interior carries Volvo's trademark Scandinavian minimalism, with a portrait-orientation touchscreen running Google's Android Automotive OS. Safety was a particular strength, as you would expect from Volvo. The XC40 Recharge was discontinued in late 2023 and replaced by the EX40, which is essentially the same car with a new name and mild updates. Used examples represent strong value, benefiting from proven reliability and a well-understood platform.

What the press thinks

A safe, well-built entry into Volvo's electric range. Reviewers consistently praised the build quality, safety credentials, and comfortable ride, while noting that range falls behind newer rivals and the infotainment can be sluggish at times.
