About the Maxus MIFA 9
The Maxus MIFA 9 is a large electric MPV from Chinese manufacturer SAIC, offering something almost no one else does: a fully electric luxury people carrier. With seating for up to seven in a configuration that rivals the Mercedes V-Class, the MIFA 9 is aimed at families, VIP shuttle services, and airport transfer operators.
A 90 kWh NMC battery provides around 230 miles of WLTP range, and DC charging at 115 kW — while not class-leading — delivers a reasonable 45-minute 10–80% time. The interior is surprisingly well appointed for the price, with captain's chairs in the second row, heated and ventilated seats, and extensive use of leather.
The MIFA 9 fills a genuine gap in the market. The only real competitors are the Mercedes EQV and converted diesel MPVs. It undercuts the Mercedes significantly on price while offering similar interior space and a longer electric range. Build quality has improved markedly over earlier Maxus products.
What the press thinks
Reviewers acknowledge the MIFA 9 fills a niche that desperately needed an affordable option. Interior space and comfort impress given the price. Concerns include the modest charging speed, unfamiliar brand, limited dealer network, and uncertain long-term residual values.
