About the Polestar 5
The Polestar 5 is a stunning electric grand tourer built on Polestar's own bespoke bonded aluminium platform — a first for the brand and a major departure from Volvo-derived architecture. With 800-volt electrical architecture and peak DC charging at up to 370 kW, it offers some of the fastest charging available in any production EV.
The 106 kWh usable battery feeds a dual-motor setup producing up to 871 bhp in Performance guise, with 0-62 mph dispatched in just 3.1 seconds. Despite the power, the Polestar 5 is designed to be a refined cruiser rather than a stripped-back track weapon. Range stretches to 416 miles WLTP for the standard dual-motor variant.
Its four-door coupe silhouette draws heavily on the Precept concept car that previewed it, and interior quality takes a significant step up from the Polestar 2. With Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT firmly in its sights, the 5 is Polestar's clearest statement of intent yet as a standalone luxury performance brand.
What the press thinks
Early press drives have been extremely positive. Reviewers highlight the Polestar 5's beautiful design, exceptional handling for a heavy EV, and blistering charging speeds. The bonded aluminium chassis delivers rigidity that translates to a genuinely engaging driving experience. Some note the high price and heavy kerb weight, but the consensus is that this is a serious competitor to the Porsche Taycan.
