How to find these values on your Volvo

Wh/mi or Wh/km

On the Google-based infotainment screen, swipe down or tap the "Energy" app. Average consumption in kWh/100 km or Wh/mi is displayed in the energy consumption summary. On older models (pre-Google), check "Driver Performance" in the centre display.

Estimated Range

Estimated range is shown on the instrument cluster (driver display) and in the "Range" screen of the central display, which breaks range down by climate, driving style, etc.

Battery Percentage

Battery percentage is displayed on the instrument cluster next to the range and in the charging/battery section of the central display.

About the Volvo EC40

The Volvo EC40 is the coupe-styled counterpart to the EX40, replacing the C40 Recharge. Built on the same adapted CMA platform, it features a sloping roofline that gives it a sportier silhouette at the cost of some rear headroom and boot space compared to its boxier sibling.

Available with 67 kWh and 79 kWh NMC battery options, the EC40 delivers up to 303 miles of WLTP range in its most efficient single-motor configuration. DC fast charging has been improved to 200 kW, a useful upgrade over the 150 kW ceiling of the outgoing C40 Recharge, bringing 10-80% times down to around 27 minutes.

The interior is pure Volvo — understated Scandinavian design with sustainable materials, a portrait touchscreen running Google's Android Automotive OS, and excellent safety credentials. The driving experience is smooth and composed, with well-weighted steering and a comfortable ride that absorbs road imperfections effectively.

The EC40 occupies an interesting niche: buyers who want the design distinction of a coupe crossover with Volvo's safety-first ethos. It competes with the Polestar 2, BMW iX2, and Tesla Model Y, offering a more characterful alternative for those willing to trade a little practicality for style.

What the press thinks

Reviewers appreciate the EC40's improved charging speed and distinctive coupe styling, while noting that the platform is now showing its age against newer purpose-built EVs. The Volvo brand values of safety, comfort, and sustainability continue to resonate strongly.
