About the Mini Countryman
The Mini Countryman Electric is the biggest Mini ever made, and it finally gives the brand a properly practical family car. Built on BMW's FAAR platform and assembled in Leipzig, it shares underpinnings with the BMW iX1 — and that is no bad thing. The 65.2 kWh NMC battery delivers up to 290 miles of WLTP range, which is competitive for the class.
Two electric variants are offered: the Countryman E with 204 bhp and rear-wheel drive, and the Countryman SE ALL4 with 313 bhp and all-wheel drive. Both feature a 65.2 kWh battery, but the ALL4 trades some range for performance with a 0–62 mph time of just 5.6 seconds.
Inside, the circular OLED dashboard display is a talking point — love it or hate it, it is unlike anything else in the segment. Boot space is a generous 460 litres, expanding to 1,450 litres with the rear seats folded. The ride is comfortable, handling is tidy, and refinement is excellent.
DC charging at 130 kW is decent rather than exceptional, managing a 10–80% charge in 29 minutes. AC charging at up to 22 kW is a welcome bonus for public destination chargers. The Countryman competes with the Volvo EX30, BMW iX1, and Kia Niro EV.
What the press thinks
Critics praise the Countryman's spacious interior, comfortable ride, and premium feel. The circular OLED display is polarising but undeniably distinctive. Charging speed is adequate, and range is respectable. Some find it has lost the cheeky Mini character at this larger size.
