About the Smart #3
The Smart #3 is a coupe-styled electric crossover that marks Smart's transformation from a city car brand into a maker of desirable, tech-forward electric vehicles. Built on Geely's Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform with Mercedes-Benz design influence, it is substantially larger than any previous Smart and competes with the likes of the VW ID.3 and Cupra Born.
Two battery sizes are available: a 49 kWh LFP pack for the base model and a 66 kWh NMC unit for the Premium and Brabus variants. The Premium delivers 272 bhp and 283 miles WLTP from a single rear motor, while the Brabus adds a front motor for 422 bhp and all-wheel drive. DC charging peaks at 150 kW with 22 kW AC charging as standard — a rare feature in this class.
The interior is well appointed with a large central touchscreen and premium materials that belie the Smart badge. The coupe roofline does eat into rear headroom, but overall the #3 offers a compelling mix of style, performance, and value.
What the press thinks
Reviewers are pleasantly surprised by how good the Smart #3 is. The combination of strong performance, attractive styling, and 22 kW AC charging stands out. The Brabus version is particularly praised for its handling. Main criticisms include the coupe roofline limiting rear headroom and the infotainment system having a slight learning curve.
